The objectives of the program are to prepare the student to:

  • Integrate theoretical knowledge acquired through the study of all required subjects which will provide the practical nurse with the knowledge needed to address self-care requisites of clients in a multicultural society.
  • Employ the principles of the nursing process within the theoretical framework to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the self-care needs of multicultural clients.
  • Provide safe and competent care that assists in meeting the client?s basic human needs, utilizing appropriate clinical knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Demonstrate caring behaviors in nurse-patient interactions.
  • Employ effective communication skills in all interactions with the patient, family, community, and members of the health care team.
  • Assume accountability and responsibility for nursing actions within the scope of practice for practical nurses.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the role of the practical nurse as a competent practitioner.
  • Participate in and evaluate personal and career growth potential.
  • Demonstrate competency on the NCLEX-PN.
